The Zoom installer let a researcher hack his way to root access on macOS

A security researcher, Patrick Wardle, found a vulnerability in the macOS version of Zoom that could allow an attacker to gain root access over the entire operating system. The exploit targets the installer for the Zoom application and can escalate a user’s level of access from restricted to superuser or root privileges. Although some bugs have been fixed by Zoom, one unpatched vulnerability still affects systems now. Wardle reported this issue to Zoom in December but only recently published his research after multiple fixes were released without fully addressing the problem.
