Legendary bacterial evolution experiment enters new era

The long-running bacterial evolution experiment in a Michigan State University laboratory is set to enter a new era. Since 1988, the lab has been growing 12 populations of Escherichia coli bacteria, with daily refreshing of growth media and freezing samples every couple of months for future study. This year, the cultures will be handed over to a new custodian, continuing an important and ongoing research initiative in bacterial evolution.
